Taking it to the Streets! The Gospel of Street Ministry” is a guide to Street Ministry which is defined, instructed and executed, providing  a plan of implementation for the local church.  In “Taking it to the Streets”, Harlan  shares very intimate interviews with fellow Street Ministers Keith Cash and Carey Stevens of Pittsburgh, PA that outlines the process of implementing such a ministry.  Minister Humphrey uses this first volume as a catalyst to find the lost and retrieve the stray.  In his introduction, he states, “Let’s be real, most of the people that we know, whether they are our friends, family members or co-workers, refuse to attend Church no matter how many times we ask; because of this very fact, we all know that it is imperative for us to let our light shine before them that they might see our good works and eventually glorify our Father in heaven.  Many of us wake up to a  secure home on Sunday mornings, pick out the preferred clothing of the many selections that are available, eat a delicious breakfast, get into or on some form of transportation, go to Church, hear the proclaimed gospel of Jesus Christ and never once think about the thousands of people we pass who are on their way to Hell.  Unfortunately, there is a group of people that we are rarely around and our association with them is minimal, if at all.  The group that I am referring to is those that are in the Streets—THE homeless, the alcoholic, the addict, the dealer, the prostitute, the runaway, and anyone else in that environment that is disconnected from God.

There is a form of ministry that is not popular among the majority; it is looked upon as archaic and extremely foolish to those that do not believe in Jesus.  The ministry that I am referring to is not just standing on a street corner preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Though that is the centrality of street ministry, the goal surrounding the preaching on the streets is to meet the lost where they are and point them in the direction they need to go.  As the Word is going forth and people are passing by there are needs that should be addressed immediately.  Someone needs prayer, someone needs to be encouraged, someone needs a bible, someone needs healed, someone needs delivered, but most of all everyone needs to hear that God wants them to be a part of His family through Christ Jesus! ”
